Hose Lay
- We specialize in large diameter hose (LDH) lays. These supply lays can increase the creditable distance from a
hydrant to a structure to almost 11/2 miles. In some
communities these hose lays will make a tanker shuttle obsolete. Water
can be pumped from pressurized-hydrants, dry-hydrants,
turbo drafts, lakes, ponds, or tanks.
Using
a single 1000 gpm engine at water-side, drafting through
a Turbo-Draft, and using a 1250 gpm engine at fill-site,
our client the East Bend Fire Department delivered 713 gpm
almost a mile away from a water source using 5" hose. This
was performed during an
Insurance Services Office
Rate Inspection
in North Carolina.
It was an incredible achievement. Two engines delivered a constant 713 gpm for
hours without the expense and needed manpower from a tanker shuttle operation. This equates to less
needed man- power, repairs, fuel, and equipment to provide a
superb quality of fire flow.
Our client
Berthoud Fire Department in Colorado,
used a dual 8,000 foot hose lay to achieve a straight
ISO Class-3.
Our client
Cape Coral Fire
Department in Florida
used our TurboDraft methodology to pump from canal
waters to improve from a ISO Class-4/9 to a straight Class-3. They now hold the
title of the largest area in Florida to hold a Class-3/3!

Please accept this letter as a recommendation of the
work completed by Skip Starling and the National Fire
Service Office (NFSO). Columbia County was looking to
start up a paid Fire Department and had seven volunteer
stations. Our ISO rating at that time was 9/10.
Through his work and knowledge of the ISO
requirements and his availability to meet with county
commissioners and other departments, we were able to
start up and meet all deadlines we had set for ourselves
and passed the ISO test with flying colors. We are
currently 5/9 and have saved our residents hundreds of
dollars each on their insurance premium cost.

I was placed in a unique position.
Immediately upon taking the position of Fire Chief for
the Waycross Fire Department we were notified that ISO
was coming to inspect us. It had been nearly twenty five
years since the City’s last inspection. Skip was brought
in to help us prepare the department for this detailed
process; and he guided us through it flawlessly. Our
inspection was performed in January of 2009 and
everything went just as he described it to us. Even
